Case Study

Introduction

Police Scotland, the national police force of Scotland, have recently decided to implement Virtual Reality into their recruitment processes. We’re thrilled that they picked us as their supplier. We greatly appreciated the opportunity to assist in the rollout of their VR headsets.

Implementing Virtual Reality into their organisation has been a rewarding experience. It has required collaboration across departments, overcoming some logistics and adapting traditional recruitment approaches. However, the outcome has been a forward-thinking, engaging tool that offers candidates an incredibly realistic insight into policing.

The process has sparked innovation and highlighted the potential for immersive technology in wider police training and engagement. Overall, it has been a positive experience that demonstrates Police Scotland’s commitment to modernising recruitment and embracing new technologies to attract the right people.

Realistic and a good way to show how the typical day of a police officer works.

I knew briefly what Police deal with daily, but the video opened my eyes even more.

It has shown me that this is what I want to do, and seeing myself as a Police Officer fuels that desire

Software & Content

Police Scotland collaborated with FocusXR to film a 4K 360° scenario that they created to showcase a ‘Day in the life of a new police officer.’ The content is hosted on their RedboxVR 10 User Pico G3 Kit and shown to potential candidates to immerse them in the role and educate them on essential aspects of everyday policing duties.

They trialled a proof of concept with candidates attending recruitment assessment days from January 21st, 2025. Recruitment open days had users complete a survey, where they achieved an average score of 4.6 out of 5. This score is rated as excellent. The feedback gained from the survey will help shape how they use VR moving forward.

Recommending RedboxVR

Police Scotland said:

‘We have an extensive Innovation Network across blue light partners who have shown interest in our VR Recruitment project and have shared how we created the proof of concept in collaboration with RedboxVR. The project also gained attention from the Emergency Services Times after we were nominated for a public sector innovation award at an event hosted by ScotlandIS.

Collaborating with RedboxVR has been invaluable, providing expert hardware support and seamless integration that ensured a smooth rollout of the VR experience. Their partnership enhanced the impact of the project and helped bring our recruitment vision to life with professionalism and innovation.’
