Sony has just announced their Mocopi tracking system. scheduled for release in January 2023. The tracking system works from a smartphone application whilst making use of a number of small tracking tags that attach to the users arms, legs and head. The data is then captured from the movement of these tags to produce fluid movement of the avatar within the tracking application.
This looks like a very promising development that can have real, tangible applications in many different industries. One example would be for use within the metaverse. Motion tracking such as this could be vital to users expressing themselves effectively in online virtual worlds.
