HTC Tease Smaller Vive VR Headset

Published

HTC have recently took to Twitter to tease a new virtual reality headset they have been working on. The tweet suggests that the headset will be considerably smaller than their previous VR offerings such as the Vive Focus 3. With Pico recently launching the much more compact Pico 4, it seems like the race for headset manufacturers to create the smallest headset has begun.

A smaller device that weighs less means that the comfort the user experiences when using the device is enhanced. Comfortability is arguably one of the most important features of wearable tech. The user experience is improved dramatically if the user is able to wear the device for long periods without experiencing discomfort.

Go small or go home definitely seems to suggest that HTC are leaning towards creating a device for consumers which is more light and compact than the devices they have previously created. However, just because a headset has a smaller form factor does not mean that it has to sacrifice power. Despite being smaller than the Quest 2, the Pico 4 actually boasts slightly better specifications.

This wont actually be the first time that HTC have created a smaller virtual reality device, they previously released the VIVE Flow in November 2021. The VIVE Flow is a lightweight virtual reality device that is heralded as the ‘pinnacle of portability’. Despite probably not being as lightweight as the VIVE Flow, we think that is is safe to assume that HTC’s new device will be considerably smaller than the majority of the VR products they have created before.

We can’t wait to see it.
