Case Study
Introduction
This Case Study will explore how VRiMS, a research group that uses Extended Reality (XR) for medical education, have used our VR Kits in their operations.
Implementation of Virtual Reality
VRiMS said that they found our VR Kits easy to implement and that they loved how they conveniently charge the headsets using only one plug, reducing cables and facilitating transportation to multiple locations and venues.
Software and Content
VRiMS have been using 3 key software packages when teaching trainees about surgical skills. First, they used Virti. Virti is a virtual reality platform that offers immersive simulations for the educational and training sector.
Another software they used is 3DOrganon. 3DOrganon is designed for learning about human anatomy in VR. This means users can view lifesize, high-definition 3D models of the human body. These models are complete with notes and other educational materials for trainees to learn about different bones and muscles in the body.
Lastly, they used ShowtimeVR. ShowtimeVR enables users to stream video across a fleet of VR headsets. This can be useful for a range of purposes, including in an educational setting.
The Benefits of VR
VRiMS brings efficiency to training and equity to learning by giving trainees a unique, close-up view of surgery that they would rarely have access to in traditional settings. This enables them to gain valuable insights and accelerate their understanding and skill development in a more impactful way.
VRiMS said they’d highly recommend RedboxVR to other companies. They highlighted that the service is consistently excellent and the level of customisation and branding opportunities provided are of a very high standard.
“RedboxVR has been an invaluable partner in helping us scale VRiMS, the world’s largest immersive surgical training resource.
Their custom, portable, travel-efficient VR boxes, have enabled us to take our technology anywhere in the world, supporting our mission to bring efficiency to training and equity to learning.
With their support, we’ve delivered courses to over 100 countries and are transforming surgical education across the UK, Africa, and beyond.”

Feedback from VRiMS
VRiMS said that the greatest joy comes when they see students of all surgical specialities put on the headsets and step into the experience. In that moment, they’re not just learning – they’re front and centre, watching operating techniques from the best seat in the house.
They love that they can offer them this unique perspective, one that delegates rarely get to experience in theatres. The positive feedback they receive is incredible- surgeons and students alike are amazed by how immersive the experience is.
